The restaurant beginning is narrated by the owner, Mateo Gutiérrez:

"Just when we arrived from Switzerland in 1981, my wife and I bought a bar near fishermen´s houses in Fuengirola. We opened the restaurant with the name Mateo,
me as maitre and my wife as chef.

In our beginning we offered traditional Spanish dishes and some Swiss dishes.

With the time our cousine changed, we evolucionated to more international and traditional Swiss dishes that´s why we decided to change the restaurant name to Old Swiss House restaurant.

Thanks to our variety menu and good service we get faithfully customers and we decided to extent & refurbish the restaurant.
The restaurant changed from the typical Spanish fishermen house to a Swiss traditional house. We also built really cosy bedrooms at the roof of the restaurant, made of wood, in order to rent them".

If we ask him to an anecdote and he reminds some like:

Revista Lookout

"At the beginning of the restaurant, we had a friendly frequent customer called Bill Atkins, magazine reporter from the Lookout. We did not know his profession and one day visited us some photographers and they ask for reportage. They explain us that Bill liked so much our restaurant that he would like to advertise our restaurant in the magazine, free of charge. The reportage got a really good impact and meant a great impulse for our restaurant."

Curiosities

"At the restaurant have been famous customers like Isabel Presley, el Cordobés bullfighter and baron Von Straussen and sometimes we were surprised with their requests, like when Isabel Presley asked for a Rösti with fried egg and sausage."
